Mr JazziQ “Party With The English” Album Review

After apprising fans of what was imminent, amapiano producer Mr JazziQ takes a celebratory break with a new body of work titled “Party With The English” album.

The compilation bears a party vibe, so one can easily explain the party part of the album’s title. It’s not an English excursion, however. But that’s by the way. With this project, the party still holds – in your heart, your ears – or wherever you want it.

Fevered expectancy had greeted the announcement of the album’s planned release, but the excitement wasn’t as loud when the project finally dropped.

Mr JazziQ’s  “Party With The English” is a 10-track compilation, with an eponymous track blazing at the bottom of the tracklist. For this project, Mr  JazziQ enlisted some of his amapiano friends, including the Piano King Kabza De Small.

This body of work begins with “Lerato,” a collaborative work with  Mpura, Purple Mellow and Busta 929. You may want to imagine the song as the oil that opens your soul to receive the whole project.

“Lerato” is a percussive lyrical winner that sucks the listener into its splendid world while showing just how good the quartet Mj JazziQ, Mpura, Purple Mellow and Busta 929 are.

Things heat up a bit with “Sebenzela Wena,” the second track in the album, which has The Majesties & MDU aka TRP as guests. Here, like in the previous track, you come off  feeling Mr JazziQ picked artistes with whom he has great musical connection. Not bad.

For “Woza” (track No.3), Mr JazziQ elected to work with Boohle – a potent combination, one might say. The Scorpion King Kabza De Small and Lady Du are also on the number.

Mr JazziQ returns with charming vibes with “Picture Junkpark,” a song for which, once again, he tapped the vocal resources of Mpura, with FakeLove popping along the line.

“Nomayini,” which features Boohle, Mellow and Sleazy, stands out for its understated elegance. Of course, it is not the finest track in the compilation, but it can easily bring back the listener after a first  encounter.

Track No. 6, “Tshepi,” while not the finest in the compilation, still has enough force to provoke a second listening session. The song brings together Mr JazziQ, Kay Invictus Vic Typhoon, Mellow & Sleazy and Dale Love. In terms of number of guests, the track is easily one of the richest. Fortunately, the cooks didn’t spoil the lyrical broth, many though they might be.

For track No. 7, Mr JazziQ linked up with Kabza De Small, Zuma and Reece Madlisa. The result of the quartet coming together is a song that we’re confident will not lack for fans.

What follows, track No. 8, “Rock It,” is something you can actually rock, although it is far from the finest track in the compilation. The song has Soul Revolver and Mellow & Sleazy as guests.

Soul Revolver would pop again in the follow-up track, “Kunana,” which also has Koppz Avenue as guest. The three make a fine team, all right, but we don’t consider this number a favourite. The reason for this should be apparent presently. Just listen.

Mr JazziQ rounds off his “Party With The English” album with an eponymous track, abbreviated “PWTE.” The song has Soul Revolver and Mellow & Sleazy riding shotgun – oh, well, in a sense. .

“Party With The English” is no perfect project. The project apparently declines in merit toward the end – read as the last few tracks. Would we still ask the amapiano crowd to check out the project? Of course.

So if amapiano is your thing – or you just want to experience the genre in its colours, you may want to join Mr JazziQ and, you know, “Party With The English.”
